Stephen T. Janik Named Portland “Lawyer of the Year” in Two Specialty Areas by Best Lawyers

(Portland, OR) October 24, 2011 – Ball Janik LLP is pleased to announce that Stephen T. Janik has been named Portland’s “Lawyer of the Year” in two specialty areas. Best Lawyers® recognized Mr. Janik as both “Land Use & Zoning Law Lawyer of the Year” and “Litigation – Real Estate Lawyer of the Year” for 2012.  Mr. Janik has been recognized by his clients and peers in the publication Best Lawyers in America® since 1983.

Best Lawyers® recently began designating “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year”.

Steve Janik is a founding partner of Ball Janik LLP and the firm’s Chairman. His principal areas of practice are real estate, real estate finance, and land use law, with an emphasis on large, high-profile projects. He has guided private and public clients through some of the region’s most important real estate projects, including mixed-use, multi-block developments, major office towers, hotels, and major league sports arenas such as Jeld-Wen Field, the Rose Garden Arena and Seattle Seahawks Stadium. Mr. Janik has argued several of Oregon’s landmark land use cases.

Mr. Janik was elected to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 1990. He has served as the Chairman of the Oregon State Bar Real Estate and Land Use Section and as an editor of the Bar’s multi-volume treatise Real Property. In 2007, Mr. Janik received the Oregon State Bar President’s Membership Service Award for his work on the Court Facilities Task Force.
