Stephen T. Janik and Brad T. Summers Named Portland “Lawyers of the Year” in Two Specialty Areas by Best Lawyers

Ball Janik LLP is proud to announce that Stephen T. Janik and Brad T. Summers were selected as “Lawyers of the Year” by the 2013 Best Lawyers in America®, one of the most respected peer-review publications in the legal profession.  Mr. Janik was selected as Best Lawyers’ 2013 Portland-OR Litigation – Land Use & Zoning “Lawyer of the Year.”  Mr. Summers was selected as Best Lawyers’ 2013 Portland-OR Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law “Lawyer of the Year.”  Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year,” making this accolade particularly significant.
Lawyers being honored as “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers are selected based on particularly impressive voting averages received during the exhaustive peer-review assessments conducted with thousands of leading lawyers each year.  Receiving this designation reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity.

Stephen T. Janik is Chairman and a founding partner of Ball Janik LLP.  He works with clients in the areas of real estate, real estate finance, and land use law, and he is known for large, high-profile projects.  He has guided private and public clients through some of the region’s most important real estate projects, including mixed-use, multi-block developments, major office towers, hotels, and major league sports arenas and stadiums.  Mr. Janik has argued several of Oregon’s landmark land use cases.

Brad T. Summers is a partner at Ball Janik LLP.  He counsels clients on bankruptcy and debtor-creditor law, workouts, and business transactions.  Mr. Summers has represented numerous debtors-in-possession, trustees, creditors’ committees, and secured creditors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.  He has also represented parties seeking to make acquisitions from distressed businesses.
