As we approach hurricane season, Insurance Attorney and Partner Kelly Corcoran published a column regarding the high cost of property insurance. Kelly says that condominium associations are feeling the impact of increasing property insurance rates as they continue to set aside needed dollars for repairs. Kelly states that late last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two pieces of legislation addressing some of the issues; the new legislation provides more state money for disaster recovery and reinsurance programs. However, this is not enough as the number of claims continue to increase, the costs of policies continue to climb, and homeowners are left without adequate protection.
“While the weather is largely beyond our control, Florida’s legislature and executives must act quickly and do more to keep the fiscal tidal wave from sweeping our state’s millions of homeowners out to sea,” writes Kelly.
