Three New Associates Join Portland, Oregon Office

Ball Janik LLP welcomes the following three new attorneys to the firm’s Portland office:

Jacob A. Zahniser – Mr. Zahniser, an associate in the firm’s litigation practice group, is focusing his practice area in construction law and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Ball Janik LLP, Mr. Zahniser was the law clerk to the Honorable Richard B. Sanders, Justice of the Washington Supreme Court in Olympia, Washington. During law school, he worked as a paralegal in the Global Products and Regulatory Law Group of Pfizer Inc. in New York and volunteered for the New Jersey Pro Bono Partnership as a researcher of employment law issues. Mr. Zahniser graduated from the University of Maryland and received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from St. John’s University School of Law. He is a former member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Actors’ Equity Association and is admitted to practice law in both Oregon and Washington.

Mathew W. Lauritsen – Mr. Lauritsen joined Ball Janik LLP as an associate with his principal areas of practice in real estate, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights. A graduate from Hampshire College having studied philosophy and literature, he received his J.D. degree from the University of Washington School of Law, where he was an active member of the Student Bar Association and represented UW Law at the ABA National Conference. Mr. Lauritsen was a member of the UW Mediation Clinic under Professor Alan Kirtley, working to resolve disputes originating with the EEOC, handling small claims disputes and assisting local legal services organizations. Mr. Lauritsen was a summer extern for the Honorable Eric J. Bloch, Circuit Court Judge for Multnomah County in 2006 and is admitted to practice law in Oregon.

Jennifer L. Pike – Ms. Pike is an associate who focuses her practice in the firm’s land use department. Ms. Pike graduated from Willamette University and was a commercial real estate appraiser assistant in Portland. She received her J.D. degree from the University of Washington School of Law during which she worked as a law clerk for the King County Bar Association, was an extern for the Juvenile Rights Project, and participated in the school’s child advocacy clinic. She was awarded “Best Oral Negotiations” in the school’s Moot Court Contract Negotiation Competition. Ms. Pike is admitted to practice law in Oregon.
