advancing clients' goals since 1982
Ball Janik LLP was founded on July 1, 1982 with six lawyers and a four-person support staff. The founding partners wanted to establish a firm focused on performing high quality professional work and advancing clients' objectives. The founders believed that if those two elements were consistently present, the firm would succeed.
Initially, the firm was known as Ball Janik & Novack, and its focus was in the areas of real property, land use and permitting, and in specialized litigation. We are fortunate to have attracted and retained valuable clients and people over the years. Our firm has grown and prospered because of the confidence that our clients have shown in us. We constantly strive to reciprocate.
In 1988, the firm established a Washington, DC office to represent clients before Congress and federal agencies. The Government Affairs practice has grown steadily in influence and geographic reach. Our bipartisan team has more than 320 years of collective experience in federal matters involving defense, transportation, natural resources, energy, the environment, tax policy, trade, municipal and local government, and federal funding.
We opened our Bend, Oregon office in 1999 to serve clients in the fast-growing Central Oregon region, which boasts some of the state’s most beautiful resorts and recreational facilities. Ball Janik attorneys have been instrumental in guiding many of these new developments and in serving the growing businesses community in the area. They have also been deeply involved in community organizations.
In 2009, we expanded to Seattle, Washington to serve clients in the Puget Sound region. Our Seattle professionals practice in the areas of government contracts, government affairs, administrative law, construction and commercial litigation. Because many of the firm’s attorneys are licensed in Washington, our Seattle clients also have access to our other practice areas, including Employment, Business and Corporate, and Bankruptcy and Creditor Rights.
Overall, we now have more than 55 lawyers and government affairs specialists, and we actively practice in a wide range of legal fields, excluding criminal and domestic relations law.
Conscious of its roots as a small group of like-minded lawyers and staff, Ball Janik has consciously carried forward the informality and collegiality of its early days. Doors are open. Discussions are encouraged. Decisions are reached on a consensus basis. Lasting client relationships are valued as the ultimate compliment to the firm's work. Each person working at Ball Janik understands that in all of our efforts, we are continually working to advance our clients' interests.
