Mr. Gardner is a partner in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Creditor Rights practice group, which serves clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. His principal areas of practice include representation of regional commercial banks and credit unions in creating specialized commercial loan documentation, negotiating and documenting commercial loan workout agreements, creditors’ rights enforcement and litigation, corporate financial restructuring, and representation of parties in business bankruptcy proceedings.
With more than two decades of direct experience as a commercial banker and executive in charge of Special Assets for a major commercial bank, Mr. Gardner counsels his clients on a wide range of financial services issues, including regulatory compliance, loan documentation and information privacy. He has developed and presented training programs for his clients, and works closely with his clients to develop and implement cost-effective policies and documentation supporting effective loan portfolio management. He offers a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to solving problems.

Prior to joining the Ball Janik LLP in 2000, Mr. Gardner was with U.S. Bancorp (U.S. Bank) for more than 20 years, culminating in his assignment as Senior Vice President and Group Manager for Special Assets.
During his legal career, Mr. Gardner has authored a number of texts and presented seminars nationally on the subjects of commercial loan workouts and loan recovery strategies. He has been an instructor at the Western School of Commercial Lending and with the Northwest Intermediate School of Commercial Lending, lecturing on historical financial analysis, commercial loan structuring, and problem loan management.
